The village cowshed is normally littered with smelly
straw and oxen waste. However on Tuesday mornings
the cowshed is swept clean and fills with forty enthusiastic
village children. Sitting cross-legged and knee-to-knee
on the floor the kids gleefully sing praise songs
and listen intently to the weekly Bible story. They
sing “God is so good to me” in
their native Telegu dialect. One by one the children
stand and deliver memorized Bible verses. Little six-year-old
Surita recites perfectly: “But just as he
who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy”
(I Peter 1:15).
When we ask the children in the cowshed Bible Club
to share a word of testimony one little girl jumps
to her feet saying, “I was brought up in
a Hindu home. We never heard of Jesus. My father often
beat me and my mother. At Bible Club I heard about
God’s love and asked Jesus to change my life.
I told my mother and father about God. They are now
Believers. My home is now peaceful and happy.”
Each week in rural villages and inner-city slums throughout
India over three-thousand-five-hundred children attend
weekly Kids for the Kingdom
Bible Clubs.
Indian nationals Sam and Prema Sunder have a heart
for the poorest of the poor in their country. This
is a lot of people since it is estimated that 200
million Indians live in abject poverty.
“Deep in our hearts we had a great burden
to reach children,” says Sam Sunder. “We
began to minister to kids living on the streets.”
Today the Kids for the Kingdom ministry
reaches throughout Southern India. Nearly three thousand
children attend weekly Bible Clubs in Chennai, Erode,
Coimbatore, Bangalore, Bhopal, Cuddalore, and dozens
of villages and city slums. Each week when Bible Clubs
convene the children learn praise songs, memorize
Scripture, and listen to Bible stories. The feeding
program followings the Bible time. At evening’s
end the children are nourished by the Word of God
and filled with a generous plate of hot, nutritious
food.
It is exciting to see a new generation of kids with
a sharp knowledge of Scripture and a desire to apply
the Word of God in their lives. These children will
change their homes, villages, and perhaps their nation
for Christ.
Kids for the Kingdom provides
cash grants and logistical support for ministry services
throughout India including weekly neighborhood Bible
Clubs and feeding programs in slum districts and villages
in Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Erode, and Bhopal.
Kids for the Kingdom provided
logistical support and funding for job-training projects
in Chennai and Nagapittinam with daily instruction,
training, and employment for 57 teen girls and young
women. Kids for the Kingdom-India
currently reaches and provides services to 3,646 Indian
children, orphans, widows, and families throughout
India.
